That’s not surprising at all. Most Americians can’t even name all the states in USA, despite every single Americian primary school have a large USA map in each cassroom.

Singaporean are equally clueless. If you look at comment #7, Eddie Hoon think that Seattle, Chicago and even LA are states in USA.

yes, this is a known widespread misconception.
the one thing you can do to minimize the possibility of confusion is to write:
“Republic of Singapore”
at the end.

Kudos to arzhou for pointing out that LA is not a state. America isn’t exactly a small country – it’s comparable to Europe in size. Not to say that Americans know the 50 states by heart, but a tiny country the size of Singapore isn’t really going to leave much of an impression on them.

To be fair to the Americans – how many of you can even tell Cambodia from Laos from Burma on a map, let alone European countries like Belarus from Bulgaria. Can anyone here confidently identify all the major Chinese states?

Lodestar: After Ms South Carolina's performace at miss teen usa, I would have to agree :p

Eddie: I guess it comes with how much you travel or been around, having been in the states for a year, I roughly know where most of the states are located. Likewise, friends who spent time in Europe are quite familar with most European countries and cities, which I am not. Btw, LA is not a state, its a major city in the states of california.

I just kind of found it funny, since I always say singapore is part of china as a joke.
