Arzhou’s 1st Attempt at Making Donuts

By arzhou | August 21, 2007

Considering all the donut fad going around….. Well I had this pack of donut mix lying around the kitchen for a while, so I decided to put it to good use. I attempted to make my own donuts! I got the donut mix while i was shopping around in Daiso, the instructions were in Japanese. Sad to say I think the donuts were not up to snuff.

The mix

The batter…. the overly wet batter

err my dear your batter seems to be more suited to pancakes – not doughnuts. Doughnuts as the name suggests that there is a dough to start with. That means you roll out the dough and then cut it – let it rest then fry it.

chillycraps: icing sugar lah. tsk tsk. looks like u not the baking type. :P

err as the name suggests you would have a DOUGH to start with. Your mixture seems more like for pancakes. I normally don’t trust these pre-mixes. email me and I’ll send u how to do an easy doughnut. Don’t heat up chocolate like that – use a microwave – that way it doesn’t chao-tar.

yian tay: sure would love to get the recipe from you. Anyway no worries about the choc burning, i was using a double boiler. Pity my home no microwave would make life much easier.

I can email u. Dun use Icing sugar – I feel it tastes funny cos we don’t use good quality oil like grapeseed oil to fry the doughnuts tend to taste funny (to me). Use strong flavoured things like Chocolate. Microwave is safer than using double-boil. In double-boil still got chance of breaking up the fat of the chocolate. When my mum’s not home (cos too much chocolate is banned in my house), I always have cooking chocolate at home-for my double choc cupcakes. Another ultra solid thing to do is to dip in melted choc and then dust milo over it – Super Duper!!

I think buying donuts from the shops are so much easier. Not to mention that super long Q.

I think it is more in the joy of baking and cooking. If i wanted a quick snack of donuts, I would definitely just go buy some.

You queue up for 2 hrs at donut factory, I think i can crank out about 50+ donuts in that timespan

  25. Sicarii Says:
    August 22nd, 2007 at 11:08 pm

But at least I make them holes first!

  26. arzhou Says:
    August 23rd, 2007 at 8:39 am

No you will create a giant hole by eating the entire donut!

here, sorry for the delay – the recipe for doughnut. It seems a little complicated, but it isn’t. You just probably need a little bit more stuff :p
    Good luck with it.
